The following images were taken by James Prior in 1910. James had strong family tie with Shebbear and he was keen to see their old home, now known as Tyrella House and the village shop before that. The Balkwill ladies that lived in Tyrella House, built Balkwill Cottages and lived in Tyrella House from before 1841.
These images were kildly supplied by Helen Bromhead, to whom we are very grateful.

We start the images with the man himself, Mr James Prior.

If you look very carefully, you may spy Keith Horwell peaking out from behind a curtain as this is the current village shop, formally run by the Martin family.

Now Devonport House, this was once the Shebbear Post Office. Mr Palmer was the Postmaster of the day and a very influential person.
